Haruno Nakashiba
Haruno Nakashiba works as the UNHCR Senior Protection Coordinator in Cox’s Bazar Bangladesh. She is specialized in protection since joining UNHCR in 2004 and served in Asia, Africa and Middle East. She joined UNHCR Bangladesh in November 2017, a few months after the influx of the Rohingya refugees from Myanmar. Currently UNHCR provides protection and assistance to some 900,000 Rohingya refugees in Bangladesh.
As the head of UNHCR protection, she supports and coordinates protection response in coordination with other UN agencies and NGO partners and supports the work of the Government of Bangladesh. Haruno Nakashiba holds Ph.D. and M.A. from the University of Tokyo in Sociology of Education and L.L.M. on International Human Rights Law from Queen Mary’s College, University of London.
