Jorge Pinere Alvarez
Jorge Piñera Álvarez is a PhD candidate at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB) and a predoctoral researcher at the Institute of European Studies (IEE-UAB) at the same university. Jorge holds a double degree in Law and International Relations from the University of Deusto and a Master’s in European Integration with a specialisation in EU external action from the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB).
As part of his work at the IEE-UAB, Jorge is a member of the research team for the Horizon Europe EXPRESS2 project, which aims to renew the EU’s social contract and protect it against various disruptive elements such as climate change, insecurity, and digital transformation, among others. Previously, Jorge worked as a Research Assistant at the Barcelona Centre for International Affairs (CIDOB) and as a Research Officer at the European Institute of the Mediterranean (IEMed) in the framework of the EuroMeSCo project.
Jorge has participated in several international conferences and his research interests focus on the EU, particularly its migration policy and external action. In this line, his current research examines how the EU should respond to the crisis of climate refugees.
