Ziad Ayad is a humanitarian and foreign policy professional with more than thirteen years of diverse experience in North America, the Middle East, North Africa and Europe in both the United Nations and the public sector. Ayad is currently serving as Senior Policy Officer, at the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) as part of the Global Refugee Forum Team, leading on the follow-up on pledge implementation. Prior to this function, as Senior Liaison Officer, Ayad focused on enhancing and leveraging the skill-set, knowledge and capacity of the private sector for global refugee operations, in the context of the Global Compact on Refugees.

Ayad served as the Senior External Relations Officer in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) Bureau at UNHCR’s headquarters in Geneva, where he focused on communications, advocacy and resource mobilization activities for UNHCR in the MENA region. Ayad served as the Acting Head of Office of UNHCR in the United Arab Emirates in addition to several other functions in Tunisia, Lebanon, Jordan and Switzerland. Prior to joining UNHCR in 2007, Ayad held functions in the Canada Borders Security Agency (CBSA) and the private sector. Ayad holds an MA in Diplomatic Studies, with High Distinction, at the Diplomatic Academy of London and an Honours Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Toronto.
